THE HURITÁ

To the naked eye, it looks like a simple sphere, but when seen up close, its inner world is discovered, just like human beings. When we see a person, the first thing we notice is their physique, how they look, or the impression they give us. When we get to know them, we discover that each person has an inner world, a backpack that they carry, and lessons to leave on their way. The Huritá sphere symbolizes power, union, and belonging. This iconic design, with intricate details, revealed up close, is the first industrial design trademark in Dominican jewelry and a distinctive sign of Monica Varela’s artistry.

MEET OUR FOUNDER

Monica Varela is a designer from the Dominican Republic who looks beyond the conventional. Her passion for the art of jewelry stems from over a decade after an enrapturing encounter with vibrant colors hidden inside electrical street wires.

Growing up with, a famous artist and father, Fernando Varela, she was bound to an artistic environment. Inevitably developing a keen eye for detail. Monica refined her artistry through studies at IED, Istituto Europeo di Design in Milano, Savannah College of Art and Design, and L’ecole Van Cleef & Arpels in Paris.

Monica’s duality between her love for abstract art and her sensibility for an anatomical evolving imagination is at the core of her eponymous brand. She has elevated traditional craftsmanship by showcasing semiprecious gemstones with a distinct fusion of cutting-edge detailing.
